Welcome ye citizens o’ the city great
And honorable guests from far and wide!
We seek to ye delight with tales of fate,
And scenes of conflict ‘twixt anointed sides:
A pair of men destined to upon thrones sit,                         5
With one already there and one to come;
Let us bear witness to th’ fallacious fits
Of envy’s crooked and disastrous sums;
Allow us t’ observe a king a rival make
Of his successor who brilliantly glows,                                10
And doth in deeds surpass and overtake
The jealous king’s less victories o’er foes.
Behold them duel till one meets dark a death
